Women of Athens
During my junior year at the University of Georgia, I found myself overwhelmed with how many brilliant women I found around me that were giving back to the community of Athens and the world at large by following their passions and making a difference. I longed for each of these women to be noticed and recognized for all the amazing work they did, but couldn’t find an outlet.
It wasn’t until a dear friend of mine gave a TED talk in our NMIX 4200 course on the significance of representation of race in children’s books, and I knew her talk HAD to be shared, that I felt compelled to make an outlet myself. This is where Women of Athens was born.
Women of Athens is a multimedia platform that highlights women from around the community, and gives each of the features the opportunity to share their work with the world. It doesn’t matter who they are, where they come from – anyone who identifies as a woman and has lived in Athens can be featured. It’s my hope with this platform that these women can be recognized for the amazing work that they do, and to showcase the many facets of what a woman in Athens can be.
